Canyon Egg Drop

Kindergarten students at Canyon Elementary had their annual Egg Drop April 22, 2011. Students got to design a package that would protect their unboiled egg from breaking when dropped from the roof of the school. Students, teachers and parents had fun watching Principal Dave Harlan drop each egg package from the roof.

Canyon Spelling Bee Winners

Fifth grade students at Canyon Elementary got to participate in their annual Spelling Bee competition Friday, April 1, 2011.  The elimination round started when it got down to the final two students.  The word in the elimination round was "ricochet" and the final word the winner had to spell was "migratory".  The winner was Natalie Pendleton and Hallie Reynolds took second place.

Canyon DARE Winners

     Fifth grade students at Canyon Elementary participate in the D.A.R.E. drug and alcohol resistance education program.  Sgt. Cory Slaymaker taught many drug and alcohol resistance lessons to the fifth grade students.  Canyon's DARE graduation was held March 22, 2011.  All students received certificates for completing the program.  Several students received recognition for being "Outstanding  DARE Students", writing an "Outstanding DARE Essay" and winning "DAREN" the DARE stuffed animal lion.

Ken Garff Bike Winners

     Students at Canyon Elementary participate in the Ken Garff Road to Success reading program.  Students keep track of the minutes they read at home.  When students meet their reading goal each month, their teacher gives them entry slips to fill out and put in containers by the office for drawings to win prizes.  March 14, 2011, fourth grade student Brinley Crouch, in Mrs. Perkins' class, and first grade student Jade Boshard, in Mrs. Snell's class, both won certificates redeemable for a bike from Walmart.

Canyon Celebrates Dads and Doughnuts

Canyon Elementary students invited their Dads, or another family member, to join them as they celebrated Dads and Doughnuts and Dr. Seuss Day.  Students read some of their favorite books with their Dads in their classrooms or in the halls and then they had doughnuts and milk together in the cafeteria.  Later that afternoon, students had a school-wide read-a-thon.

Canyon Recognizes Classified Employee

   Andrea Pond was recognized as Outstanding Classified Employee from Canyon Elementary February 16, 2011.  Andrea was born and spent her early childhood in Wisconsin.  She moved to Logan, Utah when she was 14 and spent her Junior High and High School years there.  Andrea met her husband Scott, while attending High School.  They have three children, Regan, Peyton and Mason.  She loves her children and is a very dedicated mother.  Andrea is also a hard worker.  She likes organization, yard work, making crafts and traveling.  Andrea has done a

Canyon Banana Split Reward

   Second grade students at Canyon Elementary have been working very hard to learn their addition math facts.  As an incentive to pass their math facts,  the second grade teachers told the students they could earn a banana split party as their reward.  Students got to assemble a banana split picture where each part of the picture represented a math fact that they had learned.  On Wednesday, January 26, they got to complete their pictures and have their banana split reward party.

Canyon Science Fair Winners

     Canyon Elementary had its annual fifth grade science fair Thursday, January 20, 2011.  The following students will move on to the District Science Fair to represent Canyon Elementary on February, 23, 2011.

Canyon Bike Winners
