   Fifth-grade students from Canyon Elementary participated in a Wax Museum of United States Presidents and Wives on March 2, 2012.  Students in fifth-grade study the United States and the presidents.  They did their own research on their assigned president or president's wife to find important and interesting information that they could share.  The day of the Wax Museum, they got to dress up like their president or president's wife, and take turns standing and sharing the information from their research.  Parents and students got to attend and experience the s

Canyon Second Grade Scientists

Mrs. Chantelle Oppie's second-grade students at Canyon Elementary are studying the physical properties of matter and how different materials respond to change. While working in groups, they wrote on posters their observations about the properties of some objects that they were given, such as tin foil, paper clips and pipe cleaners. Then they got to make some physical changes to the objects and they recorded their observations again, noting the changes. Students got to share their findings with the rest of the class.

Canyon Valentine's Day

Third-grade students from Canyon Elementary, in Mrs. Rachel Savage's class, showed their creativity by making their valentine boxes at home and bringing them to school on Valentine's Day to hold all of their valentines delivered from their classmates.

Canyon Mountain Man Rondezvous

Fourth-grade students at Canyon Elementary have been learning about Mountain Men in their Utah history studies. Students have been earning pelts by completing assignments and showing good behavior. They used their pelts to buy and sell goods they brought from home for their "Bartering Bash."

Canyon Rad KIDS Program

A group of third-grade students from Canyon Elementary are participating in a Rad KIDS safety program. Rad KIDS is a personal empowerment safety education program for children. It is taught by certified instructors. The Rad KIDS goal is to empower children with an understanding of what their options are and to train them with the skills they need to be safe.

Canyon Bean Museum Assembly

Fourth-grade students at Canyon Elementary had the opportunity to see and learn more about reptiles in an assembly from the Bean Museum of BYU.  After discussing many different things about reptiles, students got to see a real lizard, snake, and turtle.

Canyon Mountain Man Assembly

Mountain Man, Scott Sorenson visited the fourth-grade students of Canyon Elementary Friday, Jan. 27, 2012.  This was a great experience for our students.  They loved hearing about famous mountain men, learning more about what a mountain man does, asking questions, and actually getting to touch real animal pelts.

Canyon Science Fair Winners

   Fifth-grade students from Canyon Elementary displayed their science projects at their annual Science Fair held at the school Jan. 26, 2012.  Students formed a hypothesis for their science projects and then set up their own experimental trials to prove or disprove their hypothesis.  They kept a journal of their work and finally put together a display showing the results.  Some students worked with a team and others did individual projects.  The winners will now go on to the district science fair.

Gingerbread Houses

     Third-grade students at Canyon Elementary celebrated their annual gingerbread house making tradition on Dec. 20, 2011.  Parents donated candies and icing for the students to use.  All of the third-grade students met in the cafeteria with teachers and parent helpers to assemble and decorate their gingerbread houses.
