Dr. Seuss Day

Submitted by kalani.reed on

Canyon Elementary students enjoyed celebrating Dr. Seuss Day. We started the day with "Parents and Pastries." Families enjoyed a donut and milk in the cafeteria and then found a spot to read together. We had a schoolwide readathon with guest readers. In addition, students were able to wear hats for the day. Many classes had additional activities to honor Dr. Seuss. It was a festive day.

Fifth and sixth-grade students participated in Canyon's annual Spelling Bee. Forty-eight finalists from fifth and sixth-grade competed for the championship. Words such as sagacity, relinquish, chilblains, and treacle were spelled or misspelled until we had a champion. Congratulations to our Spelling Bee champion, Bayler      Broadbent. Other students who placed were: second place-Gavin Bown, third place-Mack Bramell, fourth place-Olivia Nelson, and fifth place- Jackson Wilson. We are proud of all of our spellers!

Feburary 19-22, 2019: Please bring your used or new shoes to the school for the shoe drive. There will be boxes by the office to drop them off.

These shoes will benefit families in poverty stricken countrues by allowing women to sell the shoes and build micro-economies within the cities they live.
