3rd Grade Guest

Submitted by kalani.reed on

Third grade was lucky to have Mrs. Charlotte Morley, a 3rd-grade mom, join us for music time. She played the guitar as we sang and played musical instruments to several familiar Christmas carols. We love when parents join us and share their talents.

Reindeer Training

Submitted by kalani.reed on

Students at Canyon Elementary are training to be reindeer this week in Physical Education.  First, they learn to fly Santa's sleigh around trees (cones).   Second, they practice a successful takeoff by jumping over hurdles and leaping into the sky.  Finally, students land on the roof by balancing on one foot and help Santa deliver presents into the chimney (laundry baskets).  Then they prance back to the end of the line and try again.

Submitted by kalani.reed on

Canyon Elementary Student Council sponsored a canned food drive during November. There were 1,153 food items collected. Based on the number of items donated, class names were submitted into a drawing for a party. Ms. Nilson's first-grade class and Mr. Sargaent's sixth-grade class each won a party. We appreciate the generous donations from our students!

Canyon third grader Kanden Zabriskie competed in the Elks Free Throw Contest. Kanden had a great time and won his age level. He gets to move on to compete in Cedar City in January. It was so close that they had to do a quadruple shoot-off to get a winner! Way to go Kanden!

Veteran's Day

Submitted by kalani.reed on

Canyon Elementary students and staff are so appreciative of our veterans. First graders performed songs and poems in honor of our veterans. They did an amazing job performing for their parents. We were also privileged to have members of the American Legion Post 68 come and talk about their service on behalf of our country. We are proud to live in this great country.

Chemical Reactions

Submitted by kalani.reed on

Mr. Harlan visited Mrs. Murphy's classroom and taught the children about chemical reactions in a fun and exciting way. He used Mrs. Murphy's fingerprint to test if "ghosts" were in the room, he combined two different chemicals together that caused an explosion, and he even made pumpkin boogers (slime). We all had a wonderful time learning about the different reactions.
