Sixth graders from Canyon Elementary visited BYU campus on Thursday, October 4, for Sports Hero Day. BYU athletes talked with the students about having positive role models, never giving up, and setting goals. The sixth graders participated in activities led by BYU athletes. Before attending, sixth graders wrote essays on what being a hero means. Ryker Woods won the essay contest for Canyon! It was a day well spent.
Sixth graders at Canyon Elementary learned about mummification in Emmy Bateman's class while studying ancient Egypt. After reading about and discussing mummification, Mrs. Bateman demonstrated the process using a fish. Students were facinated about this practice from ancient Greece.
Mrs. Perkins' sixth grade class earned a 30 minute activity by receiving the highest score possible, which is a 25. They received this perfect score 15 times from the Art, Music, Library and PE specialist since school started. They decided to have a "C" and "E" party. Two students, Braxton and Dylan entertained their classmates by bringing in their chickens. Well done!
