Congratulations to Mr. John Sargeant. He has been nominated as Canyon Elementary's Teacher of the Year. In the last 29 years, John has managed to teach more than 2,500 students. In addition to teaching, John has worked as a Student Council advisor, donations coordinator, school team leader, and Shadow Mountain summer counselor. According to his peers, John has perfect penmanship resembling printed text that can be displayed when writing on a whiteboard-a talent his colleagues envy.

John is known for his commitment to his family and his love of reading and travel. Prior to working as a teacher, Mr. Sargeant served an LDS mission in England. In his youth, he attended a two-room schoolhouse in Canada. In addition to his Elementary degree he earned from BYU, he is a professionally trained barber and still cuts hair for family and friends. He has received her Certified Utah Barbering License since 1984. He is married to Christy Scorup and has three sons, three step-children and 6 grandchildren with two more on the way.

Mr. Sargeant's trademark saying is "Welcome to Heaven." This is his outlook on any situation or circumstance. He has a positive outlook and is always ready with an encouraging word and smile. We are grateful to have John on our faculty and appreciate all he does to make Canyon Elementary great!
