Mrs. C getting an award

Congratulations to Mikayla Christensen one of our first-grade teachers. She was recognized by Homes 4 Educators as an outstanding educator. The person nominating Mrs. Christensen wrote:

Mrs. Mikayla Chirstensen is devoted to the learners in her life. After graduating with two bachelor's degrees from Utah State University, she began her teaching career in 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic. No matter the challenges her classroom faced, Mrs. C looked forward to going to school each day to laugh and learn with her students, helping each other find focus on the positive little things that mean the most. With exciting lessons and countless air hugs, Mrs. C supported her first graders then just as she does now.

Today, Mrs. C supports a new family of learners. She moved from northern Utah to help her husband pursue an MBA, and now she teaches first-grade Cougar Cubs at Canyon Elementary. Although change can be scary, Mrs. C is excited to have returned to the school district she grew up in, this time as a teacher. Parents love Mrs. C too, saying that she is amazing and that they are blessed to have her at Canyon. Mrs. C teaches us all that nothing is achieved within a comfort zone and that things learned inside and outside the classroom make us each a better person. For her devotion to the many learners around her, young and old alike, we gratefully recognize Mrs. C today.

We are so grateful to have Mrs. Christensen teaching at Canyon.
