The Great Utah Shake Out

Submitted by calleen.argyle on

On Tuesday, April 17 at 10:15 a.m., all students, faculty and staff  from Canyon Elementary participated in the 2012 Great Utah Shake Out earthquake drill.  More than 900,000 Utahns registered to participate in drills across the state that day.  Students practiced the Drop, Cover, and Hold On earthquake safety procedure either in their classrooms or outside.  How quickly we recover after a big earthquake depends on what we do to practice now.  Pictured are students in Mrs.

Canyon Earthquake Display

Submitted by calleen.argyle on

Canyon fifth-grade teachers made arrangements for an Earthquake Display to be set up at our school.  This display told students that Utah is "Earthquake Country" and large earthquakes are possible anywhere in Utah, especially along the Wasatch Front.  History shows that earthquakes strike every 350 years - the last one here was about 350 years ago.  This display of pictures, graphs and charts, gave students great information and a better understanding of earthquakes.
