Canyon third-grade students from Miss Danika Nuttall's class, participated in a Rad KIDS safety program.  Rad KIDS is a personal empowerment safety education program for children.  It is taught by certified instructors.  The Rad KIDS goal is to empower children with an understanding of what their options are and to train them with the skills they need to be safe.  At their graduation, Officer Jared from the Utah County Sheriff's Department, wore a padded suit and pretended to be a stranger.  Each student got to use their Rad KIDS' skills to demonstrate how they could get away from him.

Mr. Larry Hathaway, custodian at Canyon Elementary, was invited to do a rock presentation for the first-grade students at Canyon.  Mr. Hathaway has been a long time rock hound.  He told the students how he goes rock hunting in the mountains and collects rocks that he can bring home to cut and polish and turn into jewelery.  He showed the students some of the different types of rocks that he has collected and told them that some rocks are used for building materials, some rocks are used as dyes for clothing and some rocks have copper in them and are used to make copper wire.
