Sixth Grade Gift Exchange

Submitted by kalani.reed on Thu, 12/20/2018 - 13:49

A few weeks ago the 6th grade decided to do a ¨Secret Santa¨ gift exchange. Each student drew a name out of a box (the box was made out of a book). Everyone was asked to bring a gift to the person they got, even if they didn’t know a lot about that person. The point of this gift exchange was so the 6th graders could better understand what giving means. They did not do this to get a gift but to give a gift. Ashlynn, in Mr. Sargeant’s class said, “I liked how everyone gave a gift.

Mrs. Perkins Christmas Play

Submitted by kalani.reed on Wed, 12/19/2018 - 08:43

HO HO HO! Festivity is brewing in Mrs.Perkins 6th grade class. The class is putting on a holiday play called “What, NO Santa?” They have worked very hard on this play trying to make it perfect. December 18 was the date of their first play. They transformed their classroom so you find yourself in the middle of Santa's living room. The play consists of Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus, seven elves, announcer, first and second voice and narrator. Each has an important part. It is truly impressive to see how much work they put into it.

3rd Grade Guest

Submitted by kalani.reed on Fri, 12/14/2018 - 09:33

Third grade was lucky to have Mrs. Charlotte Morley, a 3rd-grade mom, join us for music time. She played the guitar as we sang and played musical instruments to several familiar Christmas carols. We love when parents join us and share their talents.

Reindeer Training

Submitted by kalani.reed on Thu, 12/13/2018 - 09:49

Students at Canyon Elementary are training to be reindeer this week in Physical Education.  First, they learn to fly Santa's sleigh around trees (cones).   Second, they practice a successful takeoff by jumping over hurdles and leaping into the sky.  Finally, students land on the roof by balancing on one foot and help Santa deliver presents into the chimney (laundry baskets).  Then they prance back to the end of the line and try again.

Canyon's school orchestra performed for our students in preparation for their parent performance. They played a variety of songs including Christmas songs. Their director, Cheryl Wangsgard, has done a fabulous job of teaching them. Well done, Canyon Orchestra!

Canned Food Drive

Submitted by kalani.reed on Mon, 12/03/2018 - 08:52

Canyon Elementary Student Council sponsored a canned food drive during November. There were 1,153 food items collected. Based on the number of items donated, class names were submitted into a drawing for a party. Ms. Nilson's first-grade class and Mr. Sargaent's sixth-grade class each won a party. We appreciate the generous donations from our students!
