Submitted by calleen.argyle on Wed, 05/22/2013 - 14:10

Sterling McDonald, 5th grade student,  and Elliana Francis, 1st grade student, each won a $50 Savings Certificate from the Ken Garff Road to Success Reading Program that Canyon Elementary participates in.  Each month, if students read the required number of minutes for their class reading goal, they get to fill out an entry slip and put it in the big jars by the office to be entered for drawings throughout the year.  Congratulations to Sterling and Elliana!  Keep up the great reading!

2013 4th Grade Pioneer Day

Submitted by calleen.argyle on Wed, 05/22/2013 - 10:00

Canyon fourth-grade students study Utah history in their social studies curriculum.  As a culminating activity, they had May 22, 2013 as their "Pioneer Day".   Students came to school dressed like pioneer children and they got to participate in pioneer activities throughout the day.  One of the activities was a potato peeling contest.  Students got to see how quickly they could peel a potato.   Parent helpers came to help, too.  They collected all of the peeled potatoes and cooked them in Dutch ovens for the students and teachers to enjoy.

6th Grade vs Faculty Kick Ball

Submitted by calleen.argyle on Wed, 05/22/2013 - 09:51

Once again, Canyon Elementary had it's annual 6th grade vs Faculty Kick Ball Game.  Because there were so many more 6th grade students than faculty members playing the game, they counted each run for the faculty as 3 points.  The whole school came out to cheer their favorites on.  In the end,  the 6th graders won 43/33.  (If the faculty could have gotten just 4 more runs, they would have won!)  Maybe next year.

Third-grade Businesses

Submitted by calleen.argyle on Tue, 05/14/2013 - 13:23

Third-grade students got to earn class money from their teachers for their good classroom behavior.  They also earned money every time they were respectful and followed directions in their specialists' classes.  They saved their money to buy goods from their classmates' businesses.  Students were very creative in setting up their own businesses.  They had a bean bag tossing game, a candy fruit stand, paper airplanes for sale, snow cones, and washable tatoos,  just to name a few.
