Fun Run

Canyon students are in shape!  March 31 was the date of the annual Fun Run.  The older students started out in front of the school, followed by the younger ones.  The "Fun Run" progressed through the neighborhood for one mile and ended up on the playground.  Ben, Dallon and Adam were the first ones to cross the finish line.  Each participant enjoyed a popsicle at the end of the race.  What a great way to welcome Spring.

The Kindergarten classes recently performed their famous "We're Going to the Zoo" Program.  Each of the three performances were enjoyed by proud parents and family members.  As a culminating event, the Kindergarten classes actually did go to the zoo.  Even though it rained, the day was enjoyed by all who participated.

DARE is an acronym for Drug Abuse Resistance Education.  This program is taught to 5th graders at Canyon Elementary, and we are proud to say that they have all graduated successfully.  In honor of this, each 5th grader was awarded an official DARE Tshirt and certificate.  Way to go 5th graders.  Remember to just say, "NO!"

On January 21st, 2016, Canyon Elementaryś sixth grade took a trip to BYU campus for Sports Hero Day. The students had a TON of fun participating in and watching various sports activities, including soccer, swimming, gymnastics, and more. At the end, we gathered at a gym and heard speeches from a lot of people, including the one and only Tyler Mangum!! We also were anxious to learn who won the Essay Contest from our school.  Overall, the trip was really great.

Spelling Bee

Brian Reagon has a hard time with Spelling Bees, but not our Canyon 5th and 6th graders!  On January 29, 48 students squared off during our Second Annual Spelling Bee.  The competition was fierce, but Ben Walker came out on top.  This qualified him to represent our school at the Regional Spelling Bee.  He proved himself to be a true "Spelling Champion" by coming in 7th place out of 54 competitors.  Way to spell Ben!

Radkids

It's official! There is now a whole new group of Radkids!  Radkids are students who know how to protect themselves from strangers.  Today was GRADUATION DAY!  It is impressive what these kids know and can do.  Radkids does not tell your child what we hope they will do, we actually teach, train and empower children with real skills so they can recognize, avoid, resist and if necessary escape violence or harm in their lives.

Our Solar System

Submitted by jeanette.maughan on

The sixth grade students are learning about the planets and our solar system. In these picture it shows a project that they did outside with chalk to measure the distance between the planets. First, they all got a paper listing the measurements of how far apart all of the planets are from each other.  The measurements were scaled down to what it would be like in centimeters and inches.  With chalk they got to draw a line with points showing where the different planets would be.
