2013 Canyon Science Fair Winners

   February 7, 2013, Canyon Elementary held its annual science fair.  Anyone in 5th and 6th grade could participate either individually or as a team.  There was an interesting group of projects this year.   Audrie Nordstrom's project title was  "How Does Candy Effect Our Minds and Bodies?",  Jamison Massey's was "Pop Rocks Pop", Bailey Whiethead and Sami Branch did "Fungus Infection", Breanna Snider's was "Snow or Ice",  Nick VanPelt, Kade Randloph and Jace Randolph did "Float or Sink", Boston Brower did "Walking on Egg Shells", Tessa Clayto

Mountain Man

   After Canyon fourth-grade students studied about mountain men and famous explorers, they invited a real mountain man to school to talk to them.  Scott Sorenson shared how mountain men live, they many different animals a mountain man encounters, how mountain men entertained themselves, famous mountain men, and he even shared some tall tales.  The next day the students participated in their annual 4th Grade Mountain Man Rendezvous and Bartering Bash.  They had a great time!

Regional Reflections Winner

   First-grader, Carson Lewis, went on to win the Regional Reflections contest with his theater entry.   His reflection entry now goes on to compete at the state level.  Congratulations and thanks, Carson, for representing Canyon so well!

District Hoop Shoot

   Tessa Clayton participated in the District Elks Lodge Hoop Shoot on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013.  She won 1st place again shooting 15 out of 25 free throws.  She will move on to the State level in 2 weeks.  Congratulations, Tessa!

100th Day

In honor of the 100th day of school, Mrs. Suzette Harreld asked her first-grade students to bring 100 of something for show'n'tell.  Zach Johnson brought a poster with 100 pictures of himself called "100 Faces of Zach!".

Teacher/Staff Spotlight

   Jill Christianson is our spotlight person of the week.  Jill is one of our Skill Building Technicians.  Jill is married to Mike Christianson and they have 4 kids; Tyler 23, Zac 20, Dani 17 and Jared 12.  Jill graduated from Spanish Fork High School and went to college at BYU-Hawaii and BYU.  Her favorite foods are pizza and Magleby's chocolate cake.  Her favorite vacation was going to Bali, Indonesia where they had a great time.  She loves anywhere it's sunny and warm.  Her favorite motto is, "Smile."   It was her Dad's motto.

Basketball Shoot Out

   Fifth and Sixth-grade students at Canyon Elementary got to show off their basketball shooting skills when they participated in the Elks' Basketball Shoot Out Program.  Each student got twenty-five chances to make free throw shots.  The highest scoring girls and boys then had a "shoot out" at Canyon.  Four students from our school, Matt Money, Noah Conway, Tessa Clayton and Maya Yeates, went on to participate in the district level "Shoot Out".   Our school did well at the district level.  Matt Money took 2nd place in the boys' divisio
