BYU Game

Submitted by jeanette.maughan on Mon, 11/30/2015 - 13:00

On November 24th, Canyon Elementary 4th graders were invited to go to the BYU vs USU Women's Basketball Game in Provo.  Here's a report from some of the kids who were there:  "The concessions stand was SUPER busy, like a beehive.  Well, the first period it was like a beehive, but the third period was like an abandoned wasteland. There were two injured people. One got a concussion and the other one cut her neck.  The jumbo screen was awesome!  Some people won a dancing contest there.  It was fun. The final score was BYU 81- Utah State 69. It was super awesome!"

McKenzie Wagner Visits Canyon Elementary

Submitted by jeanette.maughan on Fri, 11/20/2015 - 10:10

McKenzie Wagner, author of the Benotripia books, visited Canyon Elementary on November 19.  In conjunction with this visit, several students wrote books in the hopes of having lunch with McKenzie before the assembly. Determining winners was a difficult task, but 25 lucky students were finally selected.  During the assembly McKenzie advised the students at Canyon Elementary to follow their dreams.  At the close of the assembly we sang "Happy Birthday" to McKenzie.  She is turning 15 on Saturday.  What a great example she is to us.

Fourth Grade Fossils

Submitted by jeanette.maughan on Fri, 11/20/2015 - 08:49

We are learning about fossils.  Cole's family sent in a bunch of cool fossils for our class to see.  There were real dinosaur bones, fern fossils, trilobites, and even fossilized dinosaur poop (everyone was grossed out about that).  Then we did an experiment to see how mineral replacement works.  We love fossils!

Red Ribbon Week was a fun time at Canyon Elementary! Monday was sports jersey day, Tuesday was crazy socks day, Wednesday was crazy hair day, Thursday was pajama day, and Friday was Halloween. Student council helped make all of that happen. That week we saw lots of crazy hair, crazy socks, and awesome costumes!

Chromebooks

Submitted by jeanette.maughan on Thu, 11/19/2015 - 14:27

We love using chromebooks!  We use chromebooks every morning to work on math and take Accelerated Reading tests, but this month we also got to use them to type up our stories in writing.  It was cool because we could share our work with our friends.  They could read our stories and help us revise and edit without sitting next to each other.  It was way better than using a pencil and our stories turned out awesome!

Dictionaries Donated to Third Grade

Submitted by jeanette.maughan on Wed, 11/18/2015 - 09:29

Mr. Todd Harrison from the Bank of American Fork recently visited Canyon Elementary and presented each third grader with their very own dictionary.  Ryder remarked, "I think Mr. Harrison is really nice to give us a dictionary.  I love how it tells us about the states and the biggest word in the English language.  There are 1,909 letters in that word!"  Eden added, "I really like the dictionaries !  I used it to look up the word 'dictionary.'"
