Ballet West comes to Canyon

Canyon students (3rd-6th grades) got the opportunity to watch Ballet West, a professional dance company in Salt Lake, perform right here at our school!

The professionals talked about many things about ballet, and some student even went up  up and learned  moves from some of the pros!

Ballet West then performed beautiful scenes from The Nutcracker, in full costume!

The kids loved it, and learned a little about an art that they might not have known a lot about.

Thanks Ballet West!

Young Authors

As part of November's literacy month, PTA orchestrated a "Young Authors" challenge, where they challenged students to write a book of their own!

Many of our wonderful students took the challenge, and came up with some great stories!

Pictured here are the students who wrote books. This wasn't a requirement, so all that participated were awarded with a certificate taking the challenge. The books have been displayed in the library, and have been some of the most popular books that other kids want to read.

Jazz Bear at Canyon!

Last week the Jazz Bear from the Utah Jazz came to visit the students at Canyon! Even though he can't talk, he gave a great presentation about having a healthy lifestyle.

His presentation staying away from drugs and alcohol, eating healthy foods, and getting plenty of exercise.

The kids loved it, and were very excited the entire assembly. Thanks Utah Jazz for sending the Jazz Bear to our school! And thanks to Ms. Nilson (1st grade teacher) for arranging for him to come!

The 3rd graders did a great job on their Christmas program! They sang fun songs, recicted jokes and poems, and did some reader's theatre. It was very apparent that a lot of practice went into their performance.

Great job students!

Regions Presentations in Mrs. Patrick's class

The 5th graders in Mrs. Patrick's class have been learning all about the regions of the United States.

The cooperative group presentations were the culminating portion following learning how to do research. Each group researched a region of the United States, prepared maps, visuals, a creative way of indicating their region's name, costumes, and active listening guides to be used during presentations for recording of facts by the students. The information learned through the presentations set the stage for all further Social Studies units throughout the year.

Can you feel the Magic?

Because Nebo's theme this year is "Be the Magic", Canyon faculty and staff decided to dress up as characters from Disney movies for Halloween! What a great job they all did, and they had so much fun dressing up alongside the students!

2nd grade did an amazing job with their Halloween program! They performed it once for 1st and 3rd grades, and once for their parents! Great job students!!

All the students at Canyon had a great time dressing up, showing off their costumes in the costume parade, and participating in their class' parties.
